Total Body Photography
Total Body Photography (TBP) is also know as Mole Mapping or Skin Surveillence or Whole Body Integumentary Photography. TBP is a medical procedure used to help detect early skin cancer. Through a series of professional photographs taken by a certified photographer, the skin on the body is documented. The photographs adhere to strict protocols, making them a valuable reference for patients, doctors, clinicians and hospitals. GUNDERSEN & PRICE provides Total Body Photography to private patients, dermatologists, hospitals and medical centers. With TBP the earliest signs of melanoma may be detected and diagnosed. Melanoma is most treatable in its early stages.
Often TBP is only performed once in a patient’s life. If a patient has a significant physical life change or for very high risk patients, a subsequent sessions may be needed.
The photographic session
Patients will be at the studio for about 1 hour. Photographs will be taken by a certified Total Body Photographer. If a patient is under the age of 18 a parent or guardian must accompany them. For patients over the age of 18, they are welcome to bring a family member for support.
GUNDERSEN & PRICE take a set series of photographs of the body. If there is a specific area of concern we will take supplemental images of that area. We provide patients with a bound book full of color photographs. By doing so there is a reference to use during monthly Skin Self Check/Self-Examination. Changes are easily marked or documented for discussion with dermatologists or other medical professionals. If requested digital images only may be provided.
Total Body Photography is often covered by insurance. We will supply you with a receipt including the insurance code (CPT 96904) at the time of your appointment. At this time we do not accept insurance, but you can submit the receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement.
If you have any questions about if your health insurance plan will cover Total Body Photography we suggest you call them and use the above CPT code to find out their policy.
